Steve Williams OBE
Steve is a double Olympic Gold medallist from the British coxless fours in Athens and Beijing and four times World Champion. In 2011, Steve skied to the Geographic North Pole and conquered Mount Everest in two ‘back-to-back’ expeditions.
Of the Everest climb, during which he lost 20 kilos in weight, he says “It was an incredible experience and harder than I ever imagined. I wanted to get as high as I could before turning on supplementary oxygen and got up to 8,000 metres or the so called “Death Zone”.
Steve knows what it takes to perform at the highest level, in some of the toughest environments and under the greatest pressure. He speaks of belief, drive, dedication, taking control, teamwork, communication, attention to detail and continuous improvement.
Steve has crystalised seven high performing team disciplines based on the attitudes, behaviours and techniques used by the British Olympic Rowing Team and reaffirmed by his experiences on Everest and in the Arctic.
He was inspired to row for Gold in 2000 and 2004 after watching Garry Herbert’s Olympic success in 1992 on TV and a generation before, Garry had been inspired by Martin Cross – a true example of one generation inspiring the next.
