George Doddie Weir
Born in 1970 in Edinburgh, George “Doddie” Weir became involved in sport from an early age.
George played for many teams during his career including Scottish Schools, Newcastle Falcons, Melrose, Scotland A, B, XV and playing for the full Scottish side he went on to win 61 caps.
He proved himself to be the power house of the Scottish scrum, playing the lock position, until his retirement in 2004.
George was first capped for Scotland against Argentina in 1990 and in 1993 was shortlisted for the Lions Tour.
He suffered a horrific knee injury as a result of foul play while playing for the British Lions against Mpumalanga Province in the 1997 South African tour.
He fought his way back from injury and went on to be one of the most popular and respected players in the game.
