Legendary figure from the world of cricket who has umpired all over the world. One of the games real characters.

Harold ´Dickie´ Bird is considered one of the best umpires ever in cricket.

By the time he retired from International cricket in June 1996, he had stood at 66 Test matches, well over 150 Internationals and spent 40 years in cricket.

Known affectionately as "Dickie Bird", he has become part of cricket folklore.

He professed himself "married to cricket". But 65-year-old Dickie was more than merely another man in a white coat. No sporting book in the world has ever sold more than his autobiography - a clear sign of the fondness in which he is held by the public.

He has also been the subject of numerous other books, including Dickie: Tribute to Umpire Harold Bird and Free As a Bird: the Life and Times of Harold "Dickie" Bird.

Everyone has a favourite Bird story. Players and fans alike were endeared to the shouts and strange gestures that became his trademark, but he was a very good umpire.

Furthermore, players attest that he was good company - a fact proved by his success as an after-dinner speaker.

His place in the affections of cricket lovers and the public alike has been earned by his homespun Yorkshire wit and wisdom.

An evening with Dickie Bird is filled with forthright views on the game and those involved in it from around the world with cricket´s greatest storyteller.

Dickie Bird´s live speeches are filled with anecdotes about the game he loves so much, and some behind-the-scenes glimpses of cricket at the highest level.
